Mike Frederickson , CEO

Mike is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Systems Innovation Engineering (SIE). Mike has been involved in systems engineering for the past 30 years, specifically aimed at improving DoD system affordability and industrial base supplier resiliency. Mike has been involved in strategically developing and enabling collaborative initiatives by aligning R&D investments with logistics and acquisition.

Mike was the Director of the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Electronics Manufacturing Technology Center from 1996 to 2017 where he was responsible for developing and executing technology programs that directly improved the affordability of Navy platforms and sensor systems.

Mike graduated with honors from California State University, San Bernardino with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He has been involved in the development and deployment of advanced process controls for the electronics industry, and holds numerous patents that have been successfully transitioned to the electronics industry in the fields of process control technology and electrochemistry. Mike retired from the U.S. Air Force in August 2001 with his last position as the Commander of the 122 Logistics Support Flight, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.


Tom Murphy , COO

As Chief Operating Officer at SIE, Tom is responsible for the execution and growth of the company’s services and products.

Mr. Murphy’s early career in industry, combined with working for the Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD), afforded him the opportunity to work across early acquisition and in-service weapon system programs inside both the systems engineering and logistics disciplines. Much of his work over the last 15 years has been dedicated to establishing the required Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) technology to enable readiness-based decisions and analytics.

Prior to joining SIE, Tom served in various civilian leadership positions within the Department of Navy’s acquisition and sustainment communities. During his civilian tenure with the Navy, Tom was responsible for the creation and execution of numerous $1B+ Acquisition Category (ACAT) and Business System Category (BCAT) programs. His civilian leadership experience spans Radar, Combat Systems, Directed Energy, and Information Technology (IT).

Mr. Murphy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Virginia Tech and a Master of Science degree in Systems Engineering from Naval Post Graduate School.


Don Johnson , Sr. VP of DBS Business Unit

Don serves as Senior Vice President of Defense Business Systems Business Unit for Systems Innovation Engineering (SIE). He has over 35 years of Navy senior leadership experience (civilian and military) in the acquisition, design and sustainment of Maritime radars, electronic warfare systems, and directed energy systems.

Don had previously served as the primary independent product support assessor for all Department of the Navy major acquisition programs. He created and led numerous Navy programs to successfully focus on sustained readiness at an affordable lifecycle cost.

He has also authored numerous Department of the Navy and Naval Sea Systems Command policy, instructions, and handbooks centered around sustained readiness at an affordable cost. Don was called upon for 15+ years to provide technical assistance to forward deployed Naval forces. With his extensive DoD knowledge and application of Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model-based Product Support (MBPS), he is an asset to SIE.

In addition to his civilian work within the DoD, Don was also enlisted for 11 years active duty in the US Navy.


Ian Boulton , VP of Engineering and Solutions

Ian is responsible for technical excellence across all projects and programs.  He leads engineering, architecture and software development activities for customer projects and programs.  Due to his strong sales background, Ian also helps lead SIE’s strategy and execution of business development activities resulting in step function Defense Business System (DBS) and Weapon System business unit growth, positioning SIE software products for Software as a Service (SaaS) deployment and licensing.  

Before joining SIE, Ian was responsible for driving global revenue growth for Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) at PTC and ensuring that Aerospace & Defense industry requirements made their way into the PLM and associated solution roadmaps. During his time at PTC, Ian focused on helping customers drive digital transformation throughout their organization, working with clients such as the US Navy, US Army, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon.

Ian is a former military maintainer who served in the UK Royal Air Force and then joined BAE SYSTEMS as an instructor in Electronic Warfare. He entered software development in 2002 where he was instrumental in leading a startup company called Logistics Business Systems (LBS) as a product manager. LBS was one of the first commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) defense logistics software companies that offered compliance with the ASD “S Series” suite of integrated defense standards. LBS was subsequently acquired by PTC.


Jeanne Nevelos , VP of Operations

Jeanne is currently SIE's Director of Operations, managing its operations and security functions, as well as continuously shaping the company’s marketing and business development outreach with various stakeholders.

Prior to SIE she was with Rowan University in a technology development and economic development role as Managing Director of Rowan Innovations and Executive Director of the South Jersey Technology Park (SJTP). The SJTP housed three Research Centers and 25+ entrepreneurial companies in the life sciences, technology and defense sectors.

Previously, Ms. Nevelos was hired by former Pennsylvania Governor, Mark Schweiker, as the founding employee of Select Greater Philadelphia the tri-state regional business marketing organization where she spent three and a half years as its Chief Development Officer responsible for raising $16 million to fund and launch the organization. Ms. Nevelos then served as Select’s Vice President, Business Expansion Services, responsible for business attraction efforts to help companies locate operations in Greater Philadelphia.

Prior to her work with Select, Ms. Nevelos spent over 10 years in the banking industry, serving as a Vice President at Wachovia Bank and CoreStates Bank (now Wells Fargo) in corporate lending and relationship management positions for clients in the financial services industry, as well as in marketing and strategic planning roles.

She has an M.B.A. from Temple University and a B.S. degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
